11 Further it adds:

“Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles,
    and let all the peoples praise him.”

12 And again Isaiah asserts:

“The root of Jesse shall come,
    the one who will arise to rule the Gentiles;
    the Gentiles will hope in him.”[a]

13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may grow rich in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

  1. Romans 15:12 The citation is based on Isa 11:10 and Rev 5:5; 22:16. Root of Jesse: Jesse was the father of David (see 1 Sam 16:5; Mt 1:6), and the Messiah was the “Son of David” (Mt 21:9). The Gentiles will hope in him: this prophecy is fulfilled in the evangelization of the Gentiles.
